Meaningful Ageing Australia is trialling a new resource with member organisations and seeks your feedback!

Table Talk: A game of conversations, was designed in the UK to spark deeper conversations for older people.

Following simple guidelines, a facilitator gives an overview of the topic, then invites players to set the agenda by choosing a prompt and either asking the group or answering it themselves. Questions range from lighter to more challenging.  Generally, a conversation with 6-8 players takes around 30-45 minutes.

The conversation is sparked by prompt cards under a range of topics:

  • Celebrating
  • Big/World Issues
  • Relationships
  • Health and Wellbeing / Staying Fit
  • Trivia
  • Good Old Days
  • Last Lap
  • Treasured Memories.

Sample questions include:

  • Best film you’ve ever seen?
  • How do you keep your mind active?
  • Living with loss is difficult – how do you cope?
  • What do you think is the biggest world issue that needs addressing?
  • What are you most proud of in your life?

Meaningful Ageing Australia would like to trial the game with member organisations. If you’d like to receive a free pack for community aged care (Table Talk for Third Agers) or for residential aged care (Table Talk for Fourth Agers), please contact Project Officer Michelle Morgan by email  mmorgan@meaningfulage.org.au. We are looking at trialling Table Talk conversations from late March this year.
