Tech Connect – Staying Meaningfully Connected

‘I am devastated’ were the words that came out of Patricia (Pat) Hale’s mouth when asked how she felt about not being able to attend her grandson’s wedding in Melbourne. Pat’s statement, during a spiritual care visit, prompted the development of two pilot spiritual care programs at Nagle, a forty bed Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) managed by Southern Cross Care (SCC) in the south of Sydney. So the “Tech Connect” pilot program was developed (under a different name) with the aim of bringing the wedding to Nagle instead, and further developed in other thoughtful ways to use technology to assist connections.

Meaningful Ageing Australia is delighted to be working with spiritual carer Beate Steller on publication of Tech Connect. Together we are creating a practical guide on how to set up and facilitate the “Tech Connect – Staying meaningfully connected” program.

Tech Connect is a spiritual care program that is designed to address the many challenges of isolation and disconnect that can occur as a result of frail age and decreased mobility. The handbook will be an essential tool for those who seek to support meaningful connections that can lift an older’s person’s spirit and enhance wellbeing.

The Handbook is due to be launched in the second half of 2017.
