“I just wanted to congratulate you on producing a terrific booklet on Multifaith Practices. It really is one of the best publications that we have come across in recent times.”
Dr Philip Bliss OAM, President, Progressive Judaism Victoria
Australia is an amazingly multicultural society, as well as an ageing society. Increasingly, the ageing population, represents this incredible diversity, as as they access aged care, both community and residential, it is important that service providers are able to honour and respect this diversity.
Multifaith Practices is an Australian edition of a Canadian publication called Multi-faith Practices: Guidelines for Caregivers. Published in 2014 by the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging, the Meaningful Ageing edition amends the content for both Australian and aged care contexts. Input was given by key representatives for each religion.
The guide covers six religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism. Each chapter provides an introductory overview for each religion, including:
- Beliefs and values
- Sacred texts
- Holy days, holidays, and ritual observances
- Late life celebrations
- Caring practices during illness
- End of life practices
- Readings and prayers
