This interactive workshop is designed for professionals and spiritual care practitioners who would like to use art to explore the ConnecTo domains for their residents or clients living with dementia.  The workshop will give the participants an opportunity to see for themselves how this can be used for people living with dementia or other conditions where vocalisation is difficult or not possible.  Having familiarity with ConnecTo focuses upon connectedness, and the core of the practice is the relationship built between you and the resident or client in building rapport and trust.

Aims:

  • Allow you to explore ConnecTo and experience how this can be a powerful way to help support the spiritual self and emotional wellbeing through the domain of ‘creativity’.
  • Our facilitator, Gillian will share how to assist professionals to use art and creativity to explore the the 5 domains: creativity / nature / self / others / something greater.
  • The workshop will demonstrate how art +ConnecTo can be applied to assist people living with dementia or other conditions where vocalisation is difficult or not possible.

Preparation for the session:

No prior art experience is necessary. This is an experiential session using art as a means of expression and voice for older people (including those living with dementia).  Further simple preparatory information will be advised after registration, such as gathering magazine cuttings or other sources of inspiration to you, paint or pens and a canvas/art paper/board.  The intention is to use what you have readily available at work or home.

About ConnecTo:

ConnecTo is a validated spiritual screening tool. It asks people, “What’s important to you?”, supporting them to identify areas of their lives that offer meaning and purpose. It explores connectedness, through the lens of relationship with self, with others, with nature, with creativity, and with something bigger (for some, this includes faith/religion).

Who this is for?

This workshop is for professionals who work with people living with dementia (or their family/friends), and for those who are ready to start looking for ‘what is next’ and ‘how do I assist my resident or client to create meaning or maintain their sense of hope for the future’.
