Meaningful Ageing Australia, in partnership with Portable, is developing three new modules for Meet Akira, our world-leading interactive story that invites users to learn about spiritual care by engaging in familiar scenarios. Funded through the Wicking Trust’s Bring Death Back into Life initiative, these new modules will help personal care workers and others to deepen their capacity to provide compassionate, person-centred end-of-life and spiritual care.

We are inviting a small group of specialist staff, sector experts, care workers, older people, and community representatives to join our story group that will help co-design the experience.

What’s involved

Take part in three 2.5-hour Zoom workshops in October on:
  • Monday 20, Monday 27 and Thursday 30 October, 3:00-5:30pm AEDT
  • Contribute feedback to concept testing as stories are prototyped
  • Explore and validate real-world experiences and language
  • Help shape authentic, practical scenarios
  • Ensure the stories reflect the diversity of older Australians and care contexts.

Your insights will directly inform the story outlines and scripts before production. We recognise that availability varies and welcome participants who can commit to at least one session.

Who else will be in the workshop?

Personal care workers, older people/consumer reps, spiritual care and end-of-life specialists, aged-care providers, and culturally diverse voices. We aim for a rich cross-section of perspectives and ask that participants commit to all three sessions plus the later testing session if possible.

Cultural Safety and respect

Please be assured that our workshops will be conducted with a strong emphasis on culturally appropriate care and safety. One of our facilitators from Portable is specifically trained to manage workshops with this focus. Additionally, we recognise the sensitive nature of the workshop content (discussing death and bereavement) and want to ensure that the discussions are safe for you. If there are any specific measures we can take to enhance your comfort and safety during these conversations, please let us know.
