Meaningful Ageing Australia is the Australian peak body for championing the spiritual care and emotional wellbeing of older people, including those receiving care in residential or support at home aged care settings.

One of the biggest misconceptions about spirituality is that it is only for some of us. If you believe that spirituality is the same as religion then you will possibly feel that it is not for you or it is inappropriate to bring spirituality into your organisation’s care environment.

As health and aged care professionals, we are all familiar with the physical, psychological, emotional, social, and mental health domains of what it is to be human. However, spirituality is a very human part of our existence – and is inextricably linked to quality of life and quality care outcomes.

We all have an inner life that is a wellspring of awe, wonder and wellbeing. Spirituality is agnostic, it relates to our connections to nature, creativity, self, others and something greater including cultural beliefs or faith.
